  • Japan’s Christian Century & Martyrs

    • Thursday, May 28 • 7pm-8:30pm • English On August 15, 1549, St. Francis Xavier and a team of missionaries stepped ashore at Kagoshima, Japan, intending to spread the Gospel. Over the next 65 years, converts exceeded 300K, making Japan the jewel of missionary efforts in the East. But in 1614, Christianity was outlawed. Within 30 years, the Faith was driven underground as Christians faced two choices: apostasy or execution. Come hear the story of Japan’s Christian Century, as Walt Mussell, historical fiction author and Japanese history enthusiast, shares the story of these unknown Catholic martyrs and how Japan became as forbidden as the Garden of Eden. The presentation is an offshoot of Walt’s research for his novels and he’s open to answering any Catholic history questions about Shōgun and Silence. For questions, please contact Suzanne Coughlin at 678-960-0056 or email suzanne@popfb.org.

On Thursday, June 11, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Here in the Archdiocese of Atlanta the diocesan consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus will take place at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Atlanta on Friday, June 12, at 7pm. Space will be limited, so plan accordingly if you plan to attend. Here at Prince of Peace, we will also celebrate Mass at the same time, on Friday, June 12, at 7pm. In addition, we will offer Novena prayers before the start of all Masses beginning on June 3rd. Please join your prayers with those of the US Bishops for the benefit of our nation! As we entrust our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us pray for healing where there is division, peace where there is unrest, and a renewal of faith in every heart. May the Lord guide our leaders, bless and strengthen our families, and draw all people ever closer to His Sacred and merciful Heart.
