Christian Initiation of Adults

What is the Christian Initiation process?

Christian Initiation (CI) is a gradual and communal formation process for formally initiating adults into the Catholic Church. During this process, seekers, accompanied by a sponsor, are encouraged to consciously and freely seek the living God and undertake the journey of faith and conversion as they come to know Jesus more deeply on a personal level.

The process consists of several formation stages that are devoted to scripture, doctrine, prayer, liturgy, and Christian living, culminating with reception of the Sacrament of Initiation/reception into the full communion of the Catholic Church.

When does the Christian Initiation process begin?

We offer a year-round process for adults who are seeking to become Catholic or complete their sacraments of initiation so they are invited to join anytime of the year. While the process typically takes at least one year, there is no official start or end time as everyone's journey is different. Weekly Christian Initiation sessions are held on Sunday afternoons.

Do I have to make a commitment to become Catholic before I begin the process?

You do not have to make a commitment to become Catholic prior to beginning the process. The Christian Initiation journey begins with your desire to learn more about becoming Catholic. You will have a chance to have your questions answered and participate in the faith journey with other seekers.

What if I was baptized as a Catholic but haven't received First Communion or was baptized in another faith tradition?

You are invited to join the Christian Initiation process. Please follow the steps below to get started.

How do I get started with Christian Initiation?

To get started, please complete the following steps:

  2. Forward legible copies of your Birth, Baptism and Marriage Certificates to Carmela Trevino at carmela@popfb.org.
  3. Schedule an initial conversation meeting. (You will receive an email to make the appointment.)

Adult Confirmation

What is the Adult Confirmation preparation process?

Confirmation enriches the baptized with the strength of the Holy Spirit so that they can better witness to Christ in word and deed. Adult Confirmation is a communal formation process devoted to scripture, prayer, liturgy, and Christian living. Confirmation candidates are accompanied by a sponsor.

Adult Confirmation is for those who have been baptized Catholic, have received First Communion in the Catholic Church, if married are in a regular marriage or working with clergy for marriage convalidation, and attend Mass regularly.

When does Adult Confirmation happen?

We offer Adult Confirmation twice a year: spring and fall. The preparation takes approximately two months, with weekly sessions on Monday evenings.

How do I get started with Adult Confirmation?

To get started, complete the following:

  2. Forward legible copies of your Baptism, First Communion and Marriage Certificates to Carmela Trevino at carmela@popfb.org.
  3. Schedule an initial conversation meeting.  (You will receive an email to make the appointment).
  4. Convalidations of irregular marriages must be completed before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
